Re-Imaged Storytelling

After two years of touring in Uganda, Ghana, Egypt, UK, Scotland, Sweden, we are having a final show in Nairobi, where it all began. The re-imagined series is about adapting novels by African writers into storytelling performances, as a means to creating more platforms for our own stories, as well as reviving African oral storytelling traditions whilst encouraging a culture of readership. Multiple storytellers have taken part in the project, including Sitawa Namwalie, Mumbi Kaigwa, Raya Wambui, Patricia Kihoro, Rehema Nanfuka and Aleya Kassam.
This last installation will see amazing performers June Gachui, Neno Kali and Maimouna Jallow adapting three novels. The event will take place on November 30th at The Alchemist from 8-10pm (door open at 6:30pm). Join us if you can!!!
Tickets are 600ksh in advance -

About The Stories:
MAID in SA is a side-splitting, tongue-in-cheek look at the association between maids and their employers in South Africa.
In Can We Talk, we hear the ramblings of a man who is truly fed up. Fed up with his marriage and with the expectations placed on him by society.
The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives is an endearing and powerful tale of deception, betrayal, love, and friendship. It chronicles the life of Baba Segi, the ultimate patriarch, as he tries to unravel the mystery behind his fourth wife’s infertility. Through his quest, we explore the burdens that society places on women and the cunning ways these women escape from the confines of poverty and patriarchy.
About The Performers:
JUNE GACHUI has been referred to as one of Kenya’s most sought after entertainers. She sings, acts both on screen and on stage. Her love affair with music, theatre and the arts is no secret and those who have listened to and watched her perform can attest to that.

NENO KALI aka Tete Burugu is more than a recording engineer and a producer; he is a weaver of words. His songs and poems examine both the individual (where he draws from his own personal experiences), and society as a whole. Through his stories, he offers the male perspective to issues of gender, love, violence, oppression and more.
MAIMOUNA JALLOW is a Nairobi-based storyteller, journalist and communications consultant. She is currently curating the Reimagined Series, an adaptation of novels by African women authors for the stage. She has performed in festivals in Accra, Kampala, London, Edinburgh, Cairo and Stockholm.
