Alliance Française Gardens
Carmen

We will be showing George Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’ in partnership with the Festival Aix-en-Provence, a leading opera Festival that has been running annually since 1948. Join us for an immersive experience to the captivating music from ‘Carmen’, in a relaxed and informal setting.
A once in a lifetime experience to catch international ballet dancers on the Alliance Française garden stage from leading Ballet companies including Zurich Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Candiens, Royal Danish Ballet and the Staatsballet Oldenburg Germany.

The Russian director, Dmitri Tcherniakov gives a dark modern twist to George Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’. An experimental new form of private therapy for couples offers lavish role-playing sessions to refresh failing marriages. The sulking husband will be Don José; his irritating wife seizes the role of Micaëla.
Dmitri Tcherniakov was named ‘Director of the Year’ for this unconventional production by a jury composed of independent music critics for the German magazine ‘Opernwelt’. The Orchestre de Paris, under the baton of Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, gives a crisp yet fiery reading of Bizet’s dazzling melodies.

Breathe II

What if there is no deep meaning to life? What if this is all there is to it? What if our dreams are only meant to be that- dreams? If that is so, what do we say of hope? What do we say about perseverance? What about courage? What do we say of defiance and that crazy cynical way that life can kick us to our knees, yet we still get up and say- “one more time”? Back to Basics brings you Breathe II: Stories by Jackson Biko (from his blog www.bikozulu.co.ke.) featuring deeper, darker and even more satirical looks at ourselves. Here’s yet another opportunity to be thankful for the breath in your lungs.
Directed by Nick Ndeda, Breathe II will be starring Mwikali Mary, Ian Mbugua, Linda Milimu, Brian Ogola, Wanjiku Mburu, Bruce Makau, Wambui Murimi and Wakio Mzenge who will be transforming the stage into the airport, forest, hospital, roadside as they Breathe Biko’s stories some Theatre life. Breathe is produced by Masuti Mwalimu, staged managed by Daisy Temba and is created by Mbeki Mwalimu.
